Your Books By Phone
We published the raucous first novel by
a surfer turned teacher; then author Walt Novak got
on the phone and started calling radio and
television producers. Intrigued by his brash
self-promotion, they interviewed him, and their
audiences responded to his come-on by buying his
book as fast as we could reprint it. The Haole
Substitute made Hawaii's best-seller list the
first week it was released and registered
significant sales in California, Florida, and
Louisiana soon after Walt started calling
there.
